Cooking With Julia Childs and Jennifer Martin

Julie Julia is a delightful movie about a 30 year old wannabe writer blogging about cooking all the recipes in Julia Childs cook book in one year. It is a charming warm inspiring tale of romance, pursuing your passion, balancing life, and persistence.

It made me think about and appreciated my wife, our real estate brokerage and our church.

It doesn’t take much to appreciate my wife. Like the spouses in the movie we have an engaging, fun, joyful and passionate marriage… it’s been that way for (Holy Cow!) nearly 36 years. You must read our book to understand how and why.

While Julie and Julia were focus on cooking and that cook book, our business has been real estate. It is the world of finance and money, right? Hardly! Homes are where you will find most bedrooms in America. Homes are the passion seat of life. It is never just about money. It is always deeply personal, except for working with investors, and even then we help them achieve their personal dreams in life.

What so fascinating about church is how much people love to be there. My head is not so big as to think they come to hear my preaching… even though it may be the best this side of the Mississippi. What’s really exciting, beyond the helping that we do in the community, is that people come early and stay long after to eat and visit. Nearly every week I have to turn the lights out in the rented dance studio where we meet to get them to leave! But more than that is the beauty of our intergenerational interaction. I’m sorry but you just won’t see kindergarten age children running to greet frail seniors at most churches, but it happens every week at ours! I can tell you stories that would warm your heart through the coldest winter.

My life is very busy, I know yours is too. So it’s great to be inspired and warmed by a movie that reminds you about the beautiful things in life, cooking, eating, church, friends and … well… especially love.
