Science Nears Longevity Pill
Scientists believe that we can significantly extend our life span, with vitality, with a pill that would manipulate a single gene.
What is the advantage of living to be three or four hundred years or longer with the mind and body of a thirty year old?
Are you kidding? The accumulated knowledge and wisdom of all those years would be of incredible value for helping people! Research for curing thus far incurable disease could continue uninterrupted, except by the cure. Space travel would extend so much further. Our collective wisdom would have new ability to solve difficult and complex world problems. The roots of poverty could be pulled.
Longevity is much more than just living longer and avoiding death. Longevity is for the well-being of all people.
This whole idea of longevity brings new light to the way we view our lives today. The truth is your thinking about life is limited by the prospect of death. Death or the idea of death limits our thinking. Disease makes us focus our attention on our mortal being.
To illustrate how our mortality limits our thinking just look at these words: Social Security, Medicare, and Retirement. After the reproduction phase of our lives we focus on how to squeeze the most into the little time we have left and how to get the most out of it. We become more concerned about the rest of our life than about help others and living more fully. It is crazy thinking.
But what if we knew we would live for hundreds of years of vital healthy living? Our focus would have to change or we would die of boredom.
I have an idea. While we wait of the life extension pill why don’t we act as if we are going to live to be four hundred years old? What if we focused our attention on how to help the world be a better place? What if we shared the love of God with every one in every place? What if we ignored death and lived life?
Shame on us for limiting the way we live because of the fear of death. Did not the Savior promise us eternal life? Why is it that we think eternal life begins when we die? Doesn’t eternal life exist today?
The truth is we don’t have a life extension pill yet. But each of us can live fuller, more meaningful, significant lives if we just rid the self limiting beliefs and focus on doing everything we can do, everyday, to make life better for the whole world.
This is the pill I prescribe for you today, take this: Today is the new beginning of your eternal life. Help the poor, feed the hungry, comfort the grieving, lift up the down cast, cure disease, heal hate, spread the good news of God’s love, act as if you will live forever, and change the world.
I love you — Bryan
