Love your job? Hate your job? Is it what you want to do for the rest of your life? Are you looking forward to retirement, when you can live the easy life? For millions of Americans the REAL American Dream is to retire, travel the world, sit and drink mint juleps after a daily round of golf. But reality hits hard after a very short time and many end up bored. That’s why a growing number of aging people are abandoning the idea of retirement.

Did you know that the Bible does not know the word “retirement” and that the concept does not exist there?

It is a modern concept the apparently began in German in the late 1800s (Check out this blog: http://www.momentonmoney.com/2008/08/the-history-of.html). What is really fascinating is that more and more people are abandoning the concept and are working and volunteering more and longer.
The idea is “why retire… I still have a third of my life to live.” Besides that you can still travel and do everything else you ever dreamed of doing and still keep on going.

Asheville NC is a whole community that is adapting to the non-retirement idea and is attracting aging boomers and retirees. Imaging; a whole community that is revamping to keep workers working, professionals at the top of their game, teachers teaching and so on. Check out

Remove the concept of retirement and it opens a whole new way of thinking about life. Instead of working a dead end job forever, you can retool, begin a new adventure, move across the country, or start a new business… because life does not end at 65 or 70.

What do you want to do with your life? I have a friend who manages a dental office. She is really good at it but she is only working there because of financial considerations. Her dream is to be in ministry. I have encouraged her for years to go to seminary. She replies that she is active in church and that satisfies her need. I counter back that her real gift is not her limited role at church but in her heart she is a pastor and she needs to prepare to be one! But no…. she feels stuck because of the money; she may do it when she retires. Arrggg! What a waste of time and talent!

What is your dream goal? Have you been brain washed by the idea of retirement? Are there adventures and Godly visions that are alive, stirring and dying to pop out of your heart… but you are concerned about a secure retirement? Think again. Think about the world of wonder and all that God has arranged for you. God is going to be with you and guide you way past the age of 65 or 70.

Start living the fulfilling meaningful life that God intends for you.
